OVERVIEW
The feature to begin a new listing did not yet exist on the app.
I identified the opportunity for sellers to quickly start a new listing on the go
BUSINESS GOALS
Increase the number of weekly published items
by providing dealers with an easy mechanism to begin a WIP on their phone
USER GOAL
As a Dealer, I want to quickly initiate a new listing
and/or edit basic information I previously
entered for an item.
UNDERSTAND - EMPATHISE
I created a research plan based on the idea of quickly start a listing by taking a photo with a mobile phone using 1stdibs Seller tools app. I built a foundation by conducting user interviews to learn about seller’s habits when starting a listing.
Based on these interviews I thought of 3 options to explore
Scenario 1: Very Quick upload
Michael strives to post weekly so that he will have a presence in the new listings. This week, he received a new shipment of 3 new items. As the items are still in their shipping packaging, he wants to start cataloging them.
Scenario 2: Quick upload
Aniela knows that it’s better to post a few items weekly rather than posting all the inventory at once, however she feels it’s more efficient to do it in one block of time. In order to do so she wants to initiate few work in progress while she’s close to the object. She wants to enter information that is available to her now and will take more time to go back to all of them and later.
Scenario 3: Quick Publishing
Martha often finds that she forgot to take measurements when she’s creating a new listing. If the new listing is for a piece she’s familiar with or they’ve had regularly, filling out the form is very straightforward. If she’s less familiar with the piece she may have to go to her book or to the Internet to verify dates or manufacturing details in order to ensure the information is accurate and straightforward.
IDEATION
Bringing all the ideas together, I’ve organized the following user flow visually to determine if the solutions were feasible.
Then started exploring Interaction and design

Visual exploration
USER TESTING
This interactive prototype was put in front of a couple of 1stdibs sellers to get early feedback on usability.
Icons
Addressing user feedback I created icons to provide more guidance around the type of images sellers should upload.
